Plan around your charter

  • Half-day trip? You’ll have the afternoon free for the beach, The Strand or the Pleasure Pier.
  • Long offshore day? Plan an easy dinner and an early night. You’ll have earned it.
  • Rainy-day backup: Moody Gardens and the island’s museums keep everyone dry.
  • Traveling with non-anglers? Pair a harbor trip for the kids with a longer charter for the serious crew.

Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier

Rides, midway games and boardwalk snacks on a pier that reaches out over the Gulf from Seawall Boulevard. It’s a classic for kids and an easy evening after a day of fishing, with big sunset views.

Moody Gardens

You can’t miss the glass pyramids. Inside you’ll find a tropical rainforest, an aquarium and hands-on science exhibits, plus seasonal attractions outside. It’s a great pick for families and a lifesaver on a rainy day.

The Strand Historic District

Downtown Galveston’s historic district is lined with restored Victorian-era buildings full of shops, galleries, sweets and restaurants. It’s made for wandering, with ice cream and saltwater taffy along the way.

Nearby Pier 21 is home to the Texas Seaport Museum and the historic tall ship Elissa.

The Seawall

Walk, run, bike or pedal a rented surrey along Seawall Boulevard, with the Gulf on one side and restaurants, shops and hotels on the other. Sunrise on the Seawall is worth setting an alarm for.

Beaches

Galveston has a beach for every crew. Stewart Beach on the east end is a family favorite, the Seawall beaches put you close to food and shops, and the West End trades crowds for quieter sand.

Check the current beach conditions and warning flags before anyone goes in the water.

Galveston Island State Park

Out on the West End, the state park stretches from the Gulf beach to the bay. Come for the birding, the trails and the paddling on the bay side, or to camp under big Texas skies.

Schlitterbahn Galveston

The water park is a hit with kids and teens in the warmer months. Its schedule is seasonal, so check the park’s calendar before you plan your day around it.

Where to eat

Gulf seafood is the main event. Look for local shrimp, oysters and the catch of the day along the Seawall, on The Strand and around the harbor.

Some coastal restaurants will cook your cleaned catch for you. Call ahead and ask, then enjoy the freshest dinner on the island.
