There are some amazing fish you’ll be able to catch during your trip to Galveston, including:
- Wahoo
- Tuna
- Dorado (Mahi)

- Tilefish
More About Wahoo
Wahoo are pelagic fish that travel throughout the Gulf of Mexico and beyond. They migrate in our direction in the winter and stay around through spring, then usually migrate away by summer. They are known as one of the fastest fish in the ocean behind the sailfish, swimming at speeds up to 50 mph!
In late January, we begin targeting these high-speed sportfish. They are not only one of the most fun (yet tough) fish to catch, but they are also large. The average size wahoo is about 30lbs, but we sometimes catch them at weights upwards of over 100lbs!
Wait…Did You Say an Overnight Fishing Trip!?
This time of year, we offer 12-hour day trips for Wahoo only and we offer 36-HOUR overnight trips where we target either:
- Wahoo, tuna, and dorado (mahi)
- Wahoo and deep drop fish (grouper and tilefish)
With both of these trips, you can expect to return with boxes upon boxes of fish to take home, along with memories that will last you a lifetime.
Both these trips are for up to 6 people and everything is included (EVEN FUEL), you just need to bring your food and drinks. We have a stove, microwave, and a grill on the boat to cook on if needed.
Both trips leave at 6 AM, and your 36-hour trip will return at 6 PM on the second day. We have sleeping accommodations on the boat for up to 6 people, along with A/C and a full bathroom.

A trip to Galveston can include a lot of fun activities (along with your fishing trip, of course). Some of those activities include:
- A visit to Moody Gardens. It is fun for the whole family! They have a rainforest pyramid, rope courses, a museum, an aquarium, an IMAX theater, and more. Many of the activities at Moody Gardens are wonderful for cool evenings in Galveston.
- The Wave Dancer Charters “Catch and Cook,” experience. This is where we clean the fillets for you after you catch them, and you then take your fish to a nearby restaurant for them to prepare it for you!
- Checking out the wonderful seafood restaurants! Some great restaurants in the area you’ll want to check out include Katie’s Seafood House, Vargas Cut and Catch, Black Pearl Oyster Bar, and Miller’s Seawall Grill.

All you have to worry about is showing up on time, and bringing your family, Texas Saltwater Fish License (day pass is okay), and all of your essentials for the day (sunscreen, food, camera, seasickness medication, etc.). If you would like a full list of what you should bring, let us know. If you want to bring beer that’s fine. Just make sure it is of the canned variety.
