Fishing is already getting serious in Galveston.  The weather is beginning to warm up, and the Sheepshead and huge Black Drum, which are usually our spring stars, are already beginning to show up.  And they are beauties!

Now thru Spring

The impressive Black Drum (the large ones in the photos), are catch, picture and release only.  But Sheepshead are tasty eating and reminiscent of a Red Snapper. We even clean and bag them for you back on shore! Both are main targets for spring in Galveston, and a heck of a lot of fun to catch.

The great thing about these fish is that they put up a really good fight for all age groups – both the young and the young at heart.  This is one fun time to book your family trip for spring break…or whenever you desperately need a break. (now?)

Flounder joins the lineup for its first of two appearances this year, as does the spring run of Bull Red Drum, the Sand Trout, Speckled Trout, and even Small Sharks. The Island: OPEN for Business!

Our island is open for business, and safety is a priority here in Galveston. In fact, the local tourism site has it dubbed “Coastal Distancing” for 2021. Well, the guidelines are for the water too, because that’s where WE live, and we want to show you our exciting fishing life here on the Gulf.

Now, we like to follow up our fishing with another day of…FISHING!  But we realize that you may need other activities to balance out your exciting day with Wave Dancer. In Galveston there are plenty of activities for every member of the family.  Build your vacation around miles of beaches, golfing, surfing, kayaking, biking and more. Art, shopping, architecture, gardens, waterpark and boardwalk are also part of the lure of Galveston.

We haven’t mentioned dining yet, but our climate makes it pleasant to eat outdoors most of the year round. And while seafood abounds on these gulf shores, you will also find influences from Cajun, Creole, Mexican, BBQ, pizza and just about anything else you have a taste for. Worth noting is that Galveston’s Restaurant Week has been extended throughout the entire month of February for 2021.  If you are visiting soon, plan on dining at some of the participating restaurants while you are here!

Need a place to stay? There is an option for every budget from luxury to family friendly. Galveston has vacation rentals, hotels, B&B’s, and even RV parks nearby.

Break or No-Break, come play!

I think it’s going to be a great spring fishing season. Some of you are looking for plans during your break, while others might be looking for new surroundings while “working from home”. Whatever your reason, or length of stay, put a Wave Dancer fishing trip into the mix.
